Saturday Snapshot...On the Train to Formia, Italy...


I may be romanticizing all the pictures from the honeymoon to Italy two years ago, however I love this train shot. You can see the train curving to the right on the left side of the picture, and the mountains in the background with the overcast sky, are just perfect to me. (Click on the picture to get a better feel for it). Mysterious, too, right? What an adventure it all was. We were leaving the hustle and bustle of Rome and heading south to Formia, which is where my husband's extended family lives. Formia is south of Rome, and about an hour and a half north of Naples.

Here was our route: Roma a Formia a Napoli a Sorrento (Rome to Formia to Naples to Sorrento).
Tutto era bello. (Everything was beautiful).

    I haven't been any further south than Rome. Your photos have convinced me that we will have to do southern Italy next.

    Juju train ride first class is about 100 dollars, but it's the only way to go.

    I do love this kind of train travel. Amtrak in California isn't quite the same thing!

    I did enjoy a wine train ride a couple of years ago that was fun...

    That is a really cool train shot! I've only been on trains a couple of times (unless you count the subway in big cities). :)

    That's a great picture - I love how you can see a bit of the detail of the houses in the curve of the track. Makes you want to get closer.

    I did this train trip in reverse, minus Formia. We flew into Naples, and took the bus to Sorrento. Then we took the train from Sorrento to Rome a few days later. I loved visiting Pompeii!
