It's officially been five weeks since my husband and I moved to Virginia Beach. Already the weather is cooler, and still...we have several boxes which remain unpacked. I really don't understand how we could have accumulated this much stuff together and I firmly believe that if I haven't even thought about whatever is packed away, than I probably don't need it. It's tough to resist the urge to just donate a box unopened. Wouldn't it be great, though? Talk about de-cluttering.
My nephew and his uncle (my husband) |
Little League.
I had no idea that they grouped thirteen- and sixteen-year-old kids together on the team, and as I watched him head out to the field surrounded by much bigger boys, I started to tear up. My goodness, I remember when he was born thirteen years ago. And here I was, moments away from full on blubbering. I managed to keep it all in when my husband looked at me and said, "You don't want him to have to tell people that the lady crying in the stands is his aunt." Hmm. Good point.
Since it had been two years since he played baseball, we were nervous that he might not swing for the ball when up at bat. My nephew is extremely athletic and is known for his base running, but for some reason he is a bit restrained at the plate. Granted it was two years ago that he was like that, but we weren't sure. Imagine the thrill and cheers when he went up to hit against a pretty big pitcher and with a crack of the bat, he knocked a solid single over the shortstop's head! Consequently, we had to edit out my video so that the cheering from us and the other people in the bleachers is toned down so you don't only hear our shrieks of happiness. But, man oh man, did he hit it! I couldn't have been prouder of my nephew at that moment. It was the boost he needed. What a great way to start the fall season and I cannot wait for more games!
And in other news here at Coffee and a Book Chick... I'm still pouting about Instagram's shoddy 2.0 "upgrade" that came out recently, but thank goodness for the Interwebz as I was able to find a way to revert back to the original photo filter app for the iPhone.
Oh, books? Oh, yeah. I'll be posting a review on Monday of Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist, a freaky horror novel that did the job. Wednesday will feature a review of Me Again, by Keith Cronin, which is part of the TLC Book Tours. I just started it yesterday and it's quickly paced and pretty humorous for its subject matter. Can't wait to see how it all turns out.
What about you? How was your week?
I love that picture. It looks sort of old-fashioned, and very arty!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun to get to see your nephew play! I would have been the same way.
ReplyDeleteDon't throw those boxes away unchecked - there's sure to be that one thing that you only use twice a year in one of them but absolutely HAVE to have!
Oh, I still have some of those see-through boxes in which I packed stuff before my move four years ago! Some of it is paperwork, and I can probably get rid of it soon. But I'll have to shred it.
ReplyDeleteI hate shredding stuff! My office has some piles for shredding, too. I think I should go paperless on everything. They're always offering paperless billing.
But I also have boxes of collectibles that I sometimes bring in the house, and then take out again. Like Christmas stuff. But I know there are things I should get rid of.
I'm glad that I can stow them in the garage. They're neatly stacked on shelves. Out of sight, out of mind. LOL
Good luck with yours!
Here's MY SUNDAY SALON POST and
MY WEBSITE
I am also decluttering and find myself packing things in boxes to cart away and then taking some of them out again. It's not that easy to decide what to keep and what to give away. Good luck with your settling in and sorting!
ReplyDeleteI love going to my nephew's sporting events, too! SO glad we live close enough be able to attend...great picture!
ReplyDeleteI dred moving in the next year! And it will just be me and my boyfriend, but between us, we have a lot of stuff...well, make stuff useless junk! I imagine Goodwill and I will become good friends.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the game! Love the picture, too :]
Believe me I understand, I really do. When my kids play in a sport and they do well, there is no other feeling. I've been known to do a bit of screaming.
ReplyDeleteI'd hate to move at this point. I have so much crap. When the kids go to college and we move to the beach, to a CONDO, this will be a brutal awakening.
Little league games are so much fun! It sounds like your nephew's going to have a great season.
ReplyDeleteWow, I can't believe it's been that long since you moved! I totally know that feeling of just wanting to donate an unopened box. We have a couple we just move with us each time (my husband and I used to move every year -- this year we're staying put!) and I kind of think we should just open them and make sure we want what's inside. But really, as soon as we got rid of the stuff, we'd need it, right??
ReplyDeleteI had a pretty good week! This weekend has been spent watching football, knitting, and reading -- a perfect fall weekend (plus, it's raining and cold here). Hope your weekend is going well :)
I used to live in Chesapeake, and sometimes I wish I still did. I loved it up in Hampton Roads. And Williamsburg is so close!
ReplyDeleteMoving can be a great fresh start, but also a bit of a pain as far as getting those last boxes emptied. Ugh. We'll probably be moving in the next few years and I'm so not looking forward to the packing/unpacking thing.
ReplyDeleteI love that you got teary-eyed at your nephew's game! I thought I was the only one that did stuff like that ;)
I teared up when my youngest took her first walk down the aisle as an acolyte a few weeks ago...As I actually watched her in her robe, holding the candle lighter, images of my other two daughters, 18 and 17, doing the very same thing in the very same church many years before just overtook me. They grow up so fast, don't they?
ReplyDeleteMoving was a big wake-up call for me in terms of my secret hoarding! I think you should donate the box, because if you haven't missed whatever is in there in five weeks, you probably won't ever miss it!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that he had such a great start to baseball! :)
ReplyDeleteDid you watch either of the movies for Let the Right One In? I liked the international one better than the American version.
ReplyDeleteKids can surprise you, what a great family experience!
Loved the photo and the story of your nephew's triumph at bat. It's so nice that you could be there to share that with him. I can't wait to read your review of Let the Right One In. I have been hearing some pretty interesting things about that book! I hope you have a great week over there!
ReplyDeletethat's a great picture. i hope you have an awesome week!
ReplyDeleteThat pictures is gorgeous, even if it did come from the new Instagram! I know how easy it is to be somewhat emotional at kids' sporting events. I get like that every time my son crosses the finish line during one of his cross country events.
ReplyDeleteThey grow up so fast! My friends kids remind me of that every time I see them.
ReplyDeleteNot too much going on in my world. Baby shower at work I'm organizing, some knitting, and cool weather. October is here!
Have a great week Natalie :)
It must be so nice to be near your family. I'm sure your nephew was excited to have you watch him play!
ReplyDeleteIt's so great that you can now go to more family events, and can watch your nephew become an all-star baseball player :)
